ELK GROVE, CA: On October 25, 2019, Jon Ivy, a voting rights advocate from Sacramento, California, announced his intention to run for Congress in California’s 7th Congressional District. A self-described “Progressive Republican,” this 33-year-old Air Force veteran is looking to unseat the current incumbent, Ami Bera (D), in the 2020 election. With the primary election coming early in March 2020, Jon Ivy faces an uphill battle against a well-organized and well-financed opponent. As Ami Bera (D) has over $1.3 million in his campaign accounts, along with expectations of millions of dollars in independent spending in support of Bera, Jon Ivy will likely be the financial underdog of the race.
Here is Jon’s campaign launch video, entitled “Running Here.”
Statement from Jon Ivy:
Republicans Can Win. We can win if we abandon the wrong ideas and start running on the right ones. Ami Bera is a conservative that has repeatedly voted with far-right extremists in Congress. We need a representative that believes in progressive ideas. The party of Abraham Lincoln, of Hiram Johnson, and of Jon Ivy, can beat conservatives like Bera. And we have a moral duty to do so. We have a moral duty to reform the Republican Party, to fix congress, and to improve America.
Jon Ivy is kicking off his campaign with the release of his policy platform, which can be found at jonivy.com/platform. Along with his policy views, his website also includes biographical information and tools for supporting his campaign.
